Terms of Service

Last updated 21 August 2026

These terms cover using Sayansia — the virtual practical bench, past-paper marking, and bench bookings at our Nairobi lab. By creating or using an account, you agree to them. If you're accepting on behalf of a school, you're confirming you're authorised to do that.

1. What Sayansia is

A set of interactive simulators for practical experiments across chemistry, biology and physics; past examination papers with automated marking against the published scheme; classes, assignments and results for teachers to run; and, separately, bookable bench time at a physical lab in Nairobi.

Marking is computed by our own marking engine, checked against the same scheme an examiner would use. It's a genuine study tool, not an official result — see Marking is a study aid.

2. Accounts

There's no self-service signup. An account exists because a school invited you, or because we approved a request made through the sign-up form and invited you ourselves. Either way, only Sayansia decides your role — student, teacher, school admin — never a form you fill in.

3. Schools, teachers and students

A school that invites teachers and students is responsible for those accounts: making sure it has the right to enrol each student, supervising how the platform is used in its classes, and being the first point of contact if a parent or student has a question about their data (see our Privacy Policy). A teacher account may see and set work for students in classes they teach; a school admin may see the whole school. Neither can see across a school boundary into another school's data.

4. Fees and payment

Schools are billed per student per year for the virtual bench, at the rate published on our pricing page at the time you sign up, unless we've agreed a different rate with your school in writing. Bench time at the Nairobi lab is billed per practical or per hour, quoted and settled at the time of booking.

We invoice schools directly; we don't yet take card payments online (see Payments in the privacy policy). If an invoice goes unpaid, we may suspend the school's access until it's settled, with reasonable notice first.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms, and will normally tell you why.

6. Content and intellectual property

The simulators, written guides, marking engine and everything else we've built belong to Sayansia. You may use them for your own study or teaching; you may not copy or resell them.

Past examination papers — confidential instructions, question papers and mark schemes — are the property of the examination boards that set them (Cambridge Assessment International Education, KNEC, and others). We reproduce and adapt them for practice purposes; using them outside that purpose is between you and the relevant board, not something we license to you.

7. Marking is a study aid

Our marking engine applies the published scheme as written, including marks it flags rather than scores — points that depend on a supervisor's own readings or on graph work it can't judge automatically. A score on Sayansia is a genuine, careful estimate, not an official grade, and we make no guarantee about how it compares to what an actual examiner would award.

8. The physical lab

Booking bench time at the Nairobi lab is booking real apparatus, reagents and a technician's time. Cancellation, safety rules, and what happens if you don't show up are set out at the time of booking; normal lab safety practice (goggles, coat, following the technician's instructions) applies throughout.

9. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the service available and to give notice of planned maintenance, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access. We may add, change or retire features as the product develops; we'll tell schools in advance of a change that materially affects how they use it.

10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties beyond what these terms state, and our liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Sayansia is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including a student's exam outcome.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't lawfully be limited — for example, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence at the physical lab.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and any dispute that isn't resolved directly between us falls under the jurisdiction of the courts of Nairobi.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. We'll update the date at the top of this page, and tell schools directly about a change that materially affects them.
